Types Of Fabric For Custom Printed T-Shirts
By Marie Ponsaran
T-shirts are the clothing of choice of almost any race, country, age or gender. T-shirts, especially custom printed t-shirts, are classified by the fabric they were made of, the design they were printed with, and the size they were cut with. However, they are without exact classification when it comes to demographics. Custom printed t-shirts are usually made of cotton or cotton blends. Organically grown cotton is the best type of fabric that a t-shirt can be manufactured from. Cotton is anti-bacterial, durable and absorbent, which are perfect qualities for clothing worn everyday. Other types of fabric that custom printed t-shirts may be made from include hemp and bamboo. Bamboo is also antibacterial and long-lasting as cotton. More than that, bamboo is as soft as silk. Hemp, on the other hand, is rarely used compared to the other two. Because of its heavy association with marijuana, people shy away from anything made from hemp, thinking it might not be safe. Actually, industrial hemp is the one used for manufacturing ropes and fabric. Hemp, as used by drug users, is just a word used to describe 'grass' or 'weed.' Real hemp is really safe and more durable. T-shirts made from hemp may last longer than cotton or bamboo. Inks used to print designs on custom printed t-shirts will have to be matched with the type of fabric the t-shirts were made of. Cotton, bamboo and hemp can be printed using water-based ink and plastisol ink. They can also be custom printed using thermal transfer or direct-to-garment digital printing. Additional t-shirt printing techniques, such as embroidery, discharging or bleaching, spray painting, hand painting, or appliques may be used without problems. Unlike polymer and polyester, fabrics made from cotton, hemp and bamboo are easy to do t-shirt printing work on. |

You can make t-shirts out of bamboo? Seriously? I had no idea!
